Does anyone know if it's possible to install a new hard drive with more memory (500 gigs) on a Mac G5 1.8 Ghz Power PC?

I've already got several external hard drives but I'd prefer making some use of the one on the Mac. And if I can do this can I re-load all the apps that came with the Mac originally?

Yes, you can have 2 SATA drives in a Power Mac G5. There are 2 bays in them. Here are some manuals to walk you through it.

Not all SATA drives will work in your early Power Mac G5. It pays to do a bit of research before buying. The drive database at xlr8yourmac.com has a lot of good info, along with barefeats.com. Check the manufacturer's site for compatibility info too. Googling the drive model number and "G5 1.8" is a good idea, as always.

What model is that G5? A single or dual processor?
