Hello iMacG5 community...
..some of you wanted to see what I did to reduce the vibration noise of my cpu fan... so here´s the trick.....
Just some pieces ot leather as I mentioned before! No big deal but effective!
.. and I tried something else. Because I discovered that the bearing of the cpu fan was much louder than that
of the sys fan. I swapped the bearings. Needs some special pliers and calm hands.... but helped a bit ,too.
And my last advice:
After upgrading to 10.3.7 (or 10.3.8 DevPreview) my cpu fan went up to a 4400 speed very quick and did not reduce the speed anymore.
If you have this kinda (or any other odd powersavings behaviour) always reset the SMU like mentioned here before.
btw... does your HD or SYS fan speed change ever? Hardware Monitor says no for me..
what`s that... needs some more investigation.. stay tuned!
hth ...and sorry for bad quality pics... made with my shit samsung photo mobilphone!
Cheers

Yo community... after several weeks of stress caused by this annoying fan noise I got the trick.
In my case it definitely was the CPU-Fan making this constant buzzing noise.
After reading all forums I made a deal with my local Apple-retailer and we got a new midplane. But the new CPU-Fan made the same noise.
Well... indeed the SYS-fan ia another (open) model and is very quite.
So what...? I decided to disassemble the CPU-fan and found out thet those ball bearings Delta Electronics used, have kinda friction that causes this resonance. It is reinforced because the fan is a closed one and passes the sound to the backcase of your iMac.
No oils and graphite made it run smoother but here is the solution.
So what I did by accident; I put my hand on the whole fan and the noise was gone because my body kinda absorbed the vibration.
So I took some layers of leather from an old briefcase and put it between the fan and the backcase.
I closed my iMac with some needed pressure and it´s silent like hell even when the fans go up to 4000 upm. People try it and you will be happy like I am. Use something that cannot burn or melt and put it on the fan but do not cover the tunnel exit of the CPU-fan.
No noise no stress at all... have fun and a happy new year to all of you.
