Anybody think the next iMac will NOT have a Firewire 800 port? I figure it will, but you never know. Going to be buying some hard drives for video editing soon, and an iMac down the line a bit (when they come out). Thunderbolt is still a bit too expensive and a bit too green.

I really don't think that Apple can drop FW800 yet. Thunderbolt is too new and has very little market penetration. USB3 would be nice, but I would much rather see eSATA.

Thanks, Michael. Yeah, I agree with you. I think they'll keep Firewire 800, but Apple can surprise you. Wonder when the next iMac will come out.

None of the new Macs (mini, MBA, MBP, iMac) have FireWire ports, but you can buy a Thunderbolt to FireWire 800 Adapter for $29. They all have USB 3 ports. Mac Pro is the only Mac with actual FireWire ports now, and only USB 2.

Not quite true. The new Mac minis still have FW800. And the earlier in 2012 non-retina MacBook Pros also still have FW800. It's certainly "legacy" though. I'd like to say I won't buy any new drives without USB3 or Thunderbolt, however I had to give in and buy a new FW800 drive housing just this week since I don't have a new Mac. Not happy about the extra $$$ FW800 costs, though.

Oops...my bad. Guess I looked at the specs a little too quickly.

Thanks talmy
