I got the same results AndyG...

I don't even have the OS X software firewall running, just an AirPort Extreme BS between me and the Internet....gotta love it!

Locked down tight,

C

Mine isn't locked down tight, because I choose to use port 113 for identd purposes and I run a webserver on this very machine, thus opening port 80.

Hi All,

Sorry to jump in on this post, I have struggled for some time on my firewall settings, I have it swtiched on, set to stealth mode, I have no services enabled but evertime I run one of these tests it is never stealthed, closed yes, but not steathled, any ideas why?

My system is G5 1.6 on 10.4.5, my internet connection is via Airport Express on which I have set up a WPA password.

Any help or comments would be very much appreciated.

Gingerbeard

same thing happened to me. i posted this on the apple forums and the answer i got was the website was scanning the ports on your router, not on your computer. if you have firewall on and stealth mode enabled you should be fine.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply, that makes sense, I suppose it could be tested by plugging the LAN cable back directly into my cable modem, the Mac itself should be scanned then.

Gingerbread,

Have you enabled "Stealth Mode" in the Advanced menu of Firewall?

Hi Rickprather,

Yes, I have enabled stealth, as yet I have not have a chance to test it with a direct connection instead of via the Airport Express.

Thanks for the input.

I have installed Leopard and went to these sites to test "vulnerability". They said "some test would not run" unable to test. Are these tests still valid, is it leopard, or.....?

I get that result, too, from the Symantec test. Seems they are having some server problems with a couple of the tests.

I have the firewall set to allow access for specific services and I have the both the firewall logging and stealth mode checked on advanced. I have a wi-fi set up with a Qwest 2WIRE modem/router and the only thing showing open on the symantec test is the ping. How do I get that closed?
