I have repaired permissions for the first time since upgrading to Leopard but got this list afterwards. What do I do now? Has this list of errors been repaired ok or not? Do I need to worry as this is the first time I have had any bad reports?

You can ignore the messages that begin with "ACL found but not expected".

Everything else says that there are files that are owned by your account instead of by root; they all have to do with Flash Player. If you ever start having issues with flash media in Firefox/Safari then it could be worth revisiting, but it seems like it should be fine. I'm kind of surprised that the permissions weren't actually corrected though.

After running repair permissions, my report doesn't say that they've been fixed either. I usually run Verify again to see if those erred permissions show up again. Usually they don't. From this I gather that they actually were fixed, but DU didn't bother to write all that down in the report. I could be wrong though. :)

Yes thanks .... I ran it again and they have all been fixed except for " ACL found but not expected" which apparently I can ignore.

Good to know; Tiger tells you that it repaired things right after telling you that it found things to repair.

Yeah, I was kind of concerned the first few times it happened. I'm still not sure if that is normal operation for Leo, or a slight oversight on Apple.

The alternative would be to dig down to those files and check manually if they were changed. Who has time for that? Furthermore, if someone is going to do, it might also be good to know a bit about what the permission codes mean - I know that r means read, w is write, rw read & write, but that's all.
I found a list of them somewhere and can't seem to locate it now.

I think I'll let Leo and the developers decide if the permissions are ok, or not. :?

I think that is a very good idea!

Too many times we get ourselves in a bunch by trying to over analyze or second guess everything.

BTW, have you ever considered what the root for the word analyze is?

I could do all that, along with explaining how they apply separately to files and directories (along with what x means in there). That's only the simple part of file permissions too (it's more interesting when you try to figure out s, S, and T).

From the noun analysis for unloose -> up loosen, or loosen up. :p

I do believe he (Rick) was referring to the first four letters. :)

Right, we wouldn't want that stuff hitting the fan now, would we?

Getting back to cases - was the problem on this thread solved, yet?
There was some stuff hitting the fans with Disk Utility, wasn't there?
