A long time ago prior to me having Mac.com/Mobile.me I had an iChat account on my G-5, through AIM. I used migration assistant and it set up iChat through AIM, the way I had it originally on the G-5 on my new iMac. Is there a way to make iChat through mac.com/mobile.me on my iMac, as opposed to an AIM account, without loosing my "buddies"? When I set up my MacBook it did the mac.com thing even though I had migrated that too.

Have you figured this out? It is very easy to add people from your Address Book to the iChat/AIM buddy list. I don't know of a way to convert/import.

Yes thank you. I did a new "mobile me" account and unchecked my aim account. I then added my buddies to the new account and use that to sign in to. I'm waiting to see if they all work. The new Mac user who just got their 21" mac has not activated their Mobile me ichat account yet, i do not know if that matters.
