Well, after 1/2 a decade of leaving my Public folder Open on my .mac (MobileMe), today, I noticed my 20gb was about 3/4 full.

When I investigated, there was a TON of Torrents being uploaded to my iDisk

I know it's probably a Good idea to "Lock it anyway" - but it was really handy having "Open" to send links for people to browse, and get their files, instantly, with not having to enter a Password to Log on.

Lock em down!

It really is amazing how anyone can locate available space and take advantage of it, given the "vastness" of cyberspace... I'm like KingFish in that I've always left my .Mac Public folder open to make exchanging the odd file/link easier, but guess I'll have to toss a password on it too...

I'm right behind you, Chris, especially after just re-upping with a family pac. While my daughter is usually real practical/cautious about most things when it comes to computing & techie stuff, it's just another open port for opportunist that doesn't need to be. It's also amazing to think how far we've gone to protect our space - from slings and arrows to shotguns and cyclone fences to firewalls and anti-virus/malware/spyware programs.
Where's it all heading?

Oh, Kingfish, did you find anything useful in all that stuff they uploaded - any good flicks or apps?
I imagine, there's a lot of PC crap in there that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot firewire.
BTW - thanks for the warning!

I used to run an anonymous-login FTP server at home. It had one folder that was write only that people could leave files for me in but not retrieve, and others that were write protected. This worked well but there would be bots that visited several times a day looking for full access. This was probably about 10 years ago and it's been a known problem for many years before that!

That cache of service manuals wouldn't include the teardown for a dual 2 gig G5 would it? I think I'm going to need to replace the PSU on my rig. Don't like the directions I've seen so far.
