I won't bother to fully express my disgust with the colossal mess that is mobilwhatever, but at least some of my websites as well as my blog appear to be gone now. Since I received all the junk saying .Mac was forwarding domain names registered elsewhere, I believed them. My bad. It seems that the ability to see my websites from home is not the same as other people's ability to go to them even though they had bookmarked them in the past. In addition, anything in the archive of the blog is completely unavailable

Not only that, but as a non-technical person who found .Mac easy to use, I was under the impression that by having published websites in iWeb and placed them on .Mac, they were in effect backed up and could be re-loaded into iWeb if need be. Wrong again.

After suffering a physical failure of my main workstation's hard drive and replacing it, I discovered too late that I cannot access or edit any existing websites. Since there are a couple of them, some of which were fairly extensive, this is a huge problem. Everything else was backed up on external drives, and I thought, so were the websites - just on iDisk.

If there exists a way to access these sites, all of which are on my iDisk still, and restore/edit them, I am in desperate need of direction or assistance.

Thanks in advance.
Jeff

If you have a backup of your Users/Home/Library from old system your web sites my still exist.
iWeb keeps all the information for your site in a file called Domain. It's located in Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb.

You can copy that into the same folder on your new HD, double click it and it will open up in iWeb.

It's also possible to have more than one Domain file and therefore have more than one site, but they must be separated by putting them in folders as seen in the image below. Each folder has its own Domain file.

Note the path to this folder at the bottom of the window.

Hope this helps.

I thought I had a backup as you describe. I don't. Since I thought I'd set that in the Backup Software for my User Folder to iDisk, I'm looking into what I did wrong. NOT a good day...but thank you.

Oh man, sorry to hear that, Jeff. At one time or another, I imagine, losing data has happened to almost all of us. :(

Let this be your mantra...
"Backup, backup, backup."
