Ok - I was watching the mobile me video and since I happen to have an issue of trying to get two files to my aunt who has yahoo mail - I thought I'd try it. So I upload the two files as rtf's to idisk but I don't get the share button they show on the video.
She is not computer savy so we are not going to even try to tell her how to set up the iDisk utility on her pc.

Has anyone else tried sharing yet? What were your results?

If I am not mistaken she may not need the utility to access the file. Try putting the file in your iDisk Public folder. Then email her a link to the folder. If you don't have that url memorized it is in the .me/.mac Preference pane.

When she gets that url she clicks on it and enters the username Public and any password you have set. There might be a better way but that's pretty easy.

It doesn't give it a unique url. It just has www.me.com/idisk and if you type that in a browser it brings you the regular mobileme sign in page.

According to the video you are supposed to click on the item you want to share - click on the share button and it creates a unique url that the receiver clicks on and can then download the document/file.

I think I may have misunderstood but there seems to still be an issue - I see a public.me.com address in the banner but when I enter that in a browser - I get a sign in page that wants my .mac sign in. I don't see a way of setting up a user id or password for her to use to access the public folder. It wants my info. - never mind - I just went to my cousins iBook and if you hit ok a couple of times it opens without any input for user or password.

You are correct!

I just re-watched the intro video and the "Share File" button is missing in the current production version of Mobileme.

Of course, you can still do it the old way but the new "Create and email to share" functionality is not there (yet?)

Here's a screen shot from the video:

Here is the response from mobile me support:

Dear Cheryl,

My name is Mike from the MobileMe Support team and thank you for your inquiry about iDisk File Sharing. This feature is not currently available with MobileMe.

When MobileMe was announced, iDisk File Sharing was mentioned as a feature; however, the MobileMe webpage noted that all features listed on that page were subject to change. When MobileMe was released on July 10, 2008, iDisk File Sharing was not included. I apologize for any inconvenience.

However, you can certainly use the Public folder of your iDisk to share files. You can access your Public folder through the new MobileMe interface. The new Internet address (URL) for iDisk Public folders is this:

http://idisk.mac.com/membername-Public
