Why am I receiving emails from strangers with no subject line and no message just their email addresses. This concerns me since I've heard that hackers can use your email address to send things out untraceable. I've been receiving at least 50 of these a day and this just started up a couple of days ago. What did I do and is my mac mail being used some how?

Who is your mail service provider, ISP, .Mac? Are you using the OS X Mail application, or some other program?

this started happening to me over the last three days. It all happened after I got spammed by reunion.com and then I can never get off their list. I am using mail at home, but use .mac in a web browser anywhere else. I am getting 20 a day or more.

Thanks Michael for taking a look at the email and easing my mind.
Janet I'm sorry you are going through the same thing. It seems to be slowing down some for me so hopefully you will experience the same. It was just so annoying at the time.. :?

I occasionally get one of those but not as often as you describe. I often wonder what the objective is but I don't let it keep me from just dumping them in the trash.

Actually I just wanted to chime in to keep this all California thread going!

And in he pops to screw things up. :D
Do ex-Californians count?

If you're using Mail, you can select those emails and bounce them.
It would be rather tedious to make a rule for them if they each have a different address.

<--- popping in to screw things up further...

Chances are the return email address on these emails is an unsuspecting victim of having his machine taken over by malware. So, bouncing is just going make the victim wonder "Where the hell is this coming from?".

When you get an email that has no subject or no body, then check your downloads folder (given you're running Leopard) for a file called No Subject.eml. That's where the executables get saved. Luckily, since you're running Mac OS X you don't have to worry about these things and can simply delete these files.

In the event you received this email using a program such as Outlook running in Windows and if you opened it, then LOOK OUT!!!. Hope you have some type of anti-virus protection in place.
