So now we know that .Mac will soon be replaced with the new Mobile Me service. As a .Mac user, I listened to the keynote and reviewed Apple's website. The new features certainly look great, but there is one that isn't listed until you get to the Pricing page of the Mobile Me description.

It says, "An individual membership comes with 20GB of combined email and file storage, 200GB of monthly data transfer, and full access to everything MobileMe has to offer."

This is the first time there has been a data transfer limit on this service. 200 GB is certainly a lot, but ... this includes both file storage and email. If I get & send a lot of email with graphics or attachments, back up to my iDisk daily, have a website created via the service, use the gallery for pictures that get downloaded a lot by family members, sync all my devices as Mobile Me advertises it does with every change to calendar, email, and contacts, that data transfer limit can be used up quickly.

Or am I missing something? I'm curious to hear others' thoughts.

The previous limit on .mac data transfers was 100GB. They've doubled that. To give you an idea of how much transfer that is per month. The podcast files for MacOSG are on an average 20M each. Last month the bandwidth used for downloading the podcast was around 150GB. Total number of podcast downloads was almost 8000. You'll have to do a LOT of transfers to reach that limit.

I don't think you'll have anything to worry about.

Thanks, Scot. I've never been aware of a data transfer limit before. Finally found the page that lists my personal data transfer amounts. The highest I've ever gone is 4.5 GB in one month. Whew!

As a .Mac user, that's nice to know. :)

So, Tchr6, where did you finally find the page that lists your data transfer info?
I'd like to check mine. Not that I think I have any significant figures there just curious.

It's not easy to locate and I'm sure I went via a much more roundabout way than is necessary ...

I logged into my .Mac account via a web browser, then found my Account Settings by clicking on iDisk. I had to log in a 2nd time. At the bottom right corner is a link for Storage Settings. Click either Cancel or Save in that window and you're taken to the Account Settings.

Next to Data Transfer/month, it currently says 100 GB then there is a link to see Details. That's where you can view your monthly numbers.

Thanks Tchr6, I did manage to find it.
The most I've ever transferred in a month was 3.5 GB and that's out of two years with .Mac.

I guess, the final migration to MobileMe will take place in early July.
I'm anxious to see how Galleries will weather the change.
