I am trying to upload large files (zipped up they are approximately 150MBs) to my Idisk. I show good upload speeds on my Digital Cable (2MBs) through Speedtest.net. But they take anywhere from 35 minutes to over 8 hours. I am uploading through my Browser (Safari) but my times are all over the board. How can I CONSISTENTLY upload this size file to my Idisk? Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

iDisk is notorious for being slow when it comes to file transfers. Sometimes I think they use the XModem protocol for transfers. Send 128 Bytes, send checksum, wait for verification, send another 128 bytes. etc... ;)

If you will be doing transfers on a frequent basis and want to allow access to them by other people then I would suggest using iDisk as a last resort. You might look into getting in Internet Presence Provider (web hosting company) and setting up your own server. There are some very reasonable web hosting companies that will give you this ability. I personally use 1and1.com for my hosting needs. They have plans for as little as $4 a month.

Yes, Transmit it the best way to interact with your iDisk as far as speed goes. Simply set it up using WebDAV instead of FTP (iDisk uses WebDAV) and it works VERY well.

Actually... after looking at Transmit - think I'll just buy it... for $30 Bucks, it looks pretty nice.

its fantastic,

there's just a tab for connecting to idisk's like in the finder, i guess they're using the idisk SDK.

i have 3 or 4 peoples public idisks bookmarked, then mine and another one, everything about it is so much faster than the finder method. i think apple need to do something about it, big time

yeah... wow... you know. this is really a "Must Have" app for anyone with a .Mac account that uses their iDisk extensively.

Apple needs to implement Transmit's WebDav engine into OS X's iDisk management through Finder.

After reading some of these posts, I went and downloaded a trial version of Transmit. Yes, it has a very nice interface. I am poking around in it, and am trying to figure out if there is a way I can use it to mimic iDisk's automatic synching feature, where iDisk detects a change in a file and automatically syncs the local iDisk with the server. This is a very nice feature of iDisk, but the problem is (as I've banged on before about) the local folder is not really a folder, but a sparsebundle image, and thus doesn't get Time Machined like other files (and therefore I exclude it from my TM backups). Now, if there is a way to have Transmit do this automatic synching with a real live local folder, that'd be cool.

Panic provides an Automator Workflow that you can customize to provide that functionality. In Automator under Library, select Internet and you will see the Transmit "truck" next to Synchronize Files. Select that Workflow, add a timed function, and you should be all set.

Thanks, Cory. I'm looking this over right now, and one thing I notice right off is that I have to choose a sync direction, upload or download. Maybe I'm not understanding this right. See, I access my iDisk from two different computers (should have mentioned this before), so it's not a simple matter of upload or download. The way iDisk works now is, I guess, it sort of updates everything, downloading and uploading when appropriate. I guess what I could do is download sync my iDisk at the beginning of each session, then upload it when finished. Then when moving to the other computer, do the same.

Got this question answered for myself, and thought I'd share. I got this reply from Transmit.

Quote:
I think what you're looking for is a two way update sync. If you run a download update sync, and then an upload update sync, I think that would accomplish what you want. We're looking into making this doable with one click in Transmit 4.
