I just looked at iMovie for the first time ever. It was iMovie HD. I made a little movie.

I was however, a little put off by the lack of things it could do. Well, it IS iMovie and is not supposed to be too fancy.

I was quickly to become very discouraged with iMovie when attempting some titling which I have to describe as either very quirky or very buggy. Title previewing is particularly problematic with unexpected weird behaviour, especially in the area of titles over coloured backgrounds.

Deciding that iMovie was never going to cut it for the projects I have in mind, I fired up Final Cut Express for a first ever look. I have just got FCEHD. With almost zero experience with iMovie or any other movie editing, it is going to be a very steep learning curve.

Over the last two days, between reading the documentation and fiddling in the software, I have achieved precisely nothing except learning what doesn't work to import some footage. Error messages abound! The learning curve is even steeper than I had supposed.

On the several occasions where I have been stuck, Apple's FCE forum has been of great help. So, hopefully, in a day or two, some movie creation might start happening.

:) —> Thanks for that vote of confidence. But pleased be assured that my first and maybe, only, movie-making endeavour will win no Oscars. This is a journey of exploration and discovery, as is most of what I do on my Macs — all of it for my own personal enjoyment only.

I have about four hours of local small town airshow footage featuring WWII warbirds and some aerobatics. This will probably edit down to something a little over an hour and fit nicely on one DVD. I suppose the main reason for doing this now is so that I can free up my miniDV tapes for some fresh filming.

As a sexagenarian, I see all this as being so much to do with so little time to do it. :?

i've been getting a lot of errors and things while making an attempt to figure out how to use express, i'm probably going to just buy that DMTS dvd for final cut express 2 because i don't think there are major differences between express 2 and express hd, are there?
