Analog video through DV camcorder

I'm trying to import analog video into iMovie.
My camcorder (Canon z85) converts the analog into a DV signal ok and I actually can see it on the screen.

However when I click on import, iMovie starts playing the tape and so doesn't capture the analog video.

Is there a trick or option I missed?

simple answer that it took me days to figure out... eject the tape
