Heya All

I have been playing with preview (Snow Leopard) and managed to remove a background from a photo.

I now have a file with the image that I require, with the offending background removed :)

However, how do I replace the transparency with a solid colour, say white?

The end result is the image I wanted on a white background :)

Any thoughts appreciated

Somewhat baffled by your request. Since the background is transparent it will simply take on the color of whatever it is placed on. So if it is inserted into a document on white paper (or dropped onto a white rectangle or other shape) the background will be white.

Heya Talmy

Thanks for the reply, perhaps I didn't make my self clear

When I have added the background of my own colour I wish to import it back into iPhoto to be included in a slideshow :)

Thanks again

"Import" on the file menu. There is no way to replace the original with the "fixed" version. You get an entirely new image.

Talmy

Again thanks for the reply.

I tried the import option and it arrives with a black background, is there any way to import with a different background?

Thanks for your advice so far

The black background is actual the transparency. I don't know how you set the blackground in Preview. If I take the image imported into iPhoto and paste it into a Pages document, the transparent area is transparent.

I think you need a stronger editor than Preview or iPhoto to set a background where it is transparent. I know PhotoShop will do it, but that's costly. I'd try The Gimp (free) first.
