Several pornography sites are loading a Trojan disguised as a video codec required to view content on Macs—the first Mac-targeted malware exploit to be spotted in the wild and validation of security researchers' long-maintained prediction that, sooner or later, the rationale for Mac security smugness would rub off. If Mac users click on the stills to view the videos, they're taken to a site that informs them that the QuickTime Player is unable to play the movie file. They're then instructed to click to download a new codec.

It appears you have to ask for it.If you avoid downloading porn videos I guess you're OK.Works for me.

Bmer- I've looked for the best protection against the trojan horse you mention on the internet and the consensus is VirusBarrier, Norton, and others cause more trouble than they are worth. ClamXav was recommended (free). I am trying it and it does find infected files and quaranteens them, but, I see no change. I consistantly get redirected to sites I do not want, slowly. I, as others have, am also having trouble after updating to Quicktime 7.3 ! You know the circle with the ? inside. I've tried fixes other folks have sugested and I feel as I did when I had my old windows PC. I'm tempted to try the hard drive erase and start all over but I hesitate since I am an amature at best. What would you advise?

Bill

Have you tried going into the Advanced setting in the Quicktime preference pane and de-select the Miscellaneous settings? A log-out or reboot afterwards may be required for the settings to stick.

Well, I am a advocate of antivirus stuff but what ever the case, I would add a another gig of ram to your set up. Also post a URL you are having trouble with. Maybe a few users here can scope out the differences and help find a solution for you.
