Thanks for the great instructions Sailfish. One question: does it matter if you create the internal boot raid before you zero it or should you zero both drives one at a time, and then create the raid. Or doesnt it matter?

When you power the drives for the first time, they are unformatted and the Mac will ask you if you want to.

:)

Sailfish, from a previous post.. this is the best thing I have done for my G5. It is simply the single most effective thing I've done to increase overall system speed. My xbench scores went up from the low 190's to 215. Rendering and encoding also seems faster. Opening 1500 photos is a snap.

I heartily recommend this to ANYONE who owns a G5 and wants to maximize ther productivity.

Thanks again for all of the past encouraging posts on RAID 0!

What advice was removed? What's up with your avatar?

My guess:

Someone set this up and accidentally formatted their data in setting up
the stripe set and had a conniption fit when they lost all their data.

I don't understand why a corporation would be against individuals setting
up a raid stripe set on their personal macintoshes in their homes.

I can't for the life of me understand why an individual would threaten a
lawsuit for this advice.

There's more to this story than we know and I doubt Sailfish will respond
as to the what occurred.

I for one miss him and the advice. I was able to do it on my own however. I think it the top tip I ever got. If you are not able to this or do not feel that you are competent enough to do so . . . go sip a coke and pass on it. Most likely you won't notice the speed anyway. A lot of folks have no 'feel' for machine responce. So they need not apply. If you do it and screw it up, who you ganna call?

Give me a brake . . . I hope the stupid gets his or her jollys. Sad.
