I've been an i9900 user for several years on a PC and found no problems. Recently I switched to MAC and now have a problem. I can print to my i9900, but I do not have all the utilities. For example, when using PhotoShop CS4, I do not get the full i9900 menu when clicking on PAGE SETUP. I can't select the paper type, switch off the color controls, etc.

Contacted Canon several times without much success. I downloaded the latest print driver--no success. In searching the internet, I can see that I'm not the only one with the problem, but have not found the magic bullet.

My brother-in-law is having the same problem with his new iMac after switching from the PC. Any suggestions? :?

When you select print and when the print option widow comes open do you see presets ? It should be right under the name of your printer. Also under that option is Preview select that and that will come up with a drop down window that allows you to select printer options.

You are the second person on this forum to have problems with an i9900 in the past few months. As far as I can tell, this printer hit the market in early 2004, and so is nearly five years old. When it was new OS X 10.3 was fairly new.

Canon's basic driver package is included in the default install of Leopard, so reinstalling the one from Canon's web site isn't updating the software. That same driver was last updated in late 2007, before the release of Leopard. It may have been out of date even then. The screenshots of the printer setup dialog box in the user manual are from 10.2 or 10.3.

There are some additional printing utilities available for download from Canon. I can't say for sure whether they will help you. Canon no longer sells the i9900, so I wouldn't count on any more driver/software updates.

In addition to the driver issues, there have been at least two firmware updates for the printer. The current firmware version is 1.05. The firmware can only be updated from Windows, as Canon has chosen not to provide an update package for OS X.

If this aging (and expensive) printer is still fully functional, and none of the above helps, you seem to have two options (other than purchasing a newer printer): First, print from Windows. Second, figure out a workflow that performs the tasks formerly done by the printer driver before queuing the job to print.

You are, apparently, fighting Canon's planned obsolescence for the i9900. They want you to give up and buy a new one.

Another shot at it.
Had issues once that was fixed with
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
From another old forum thread

I went into Systems Preferences, and clicked on Print & Fax. There I saw my Canon i9900 listed under "Kind:" as "BJC-8200 GIMP-Print"

It is pretty slick and works on things when others fail.

More info: There is a running discussion on MacInTouch about accessing printer driver settings in the print dialog box

Do you see only two popup menus, Printer and Presets? If this is the case, click the downward pointing blue triangle button to reveal all of the "normal" printer dialog features.
