All of a sudden yesterday the scroller-ball no longer allows me to scroll up. Down, left and right work fine. Anyone have an issue like this? Anyone know how I can fix it? I've fixed permissions. Other mice that have a scroll wheel work fine, ofcourse they use a different system preference pane.

I hate the one button mice from Apple. Although I have a small app that allows me to right click when I hold the button down.... nothing I have found allows me to scroll up and down without the keyboard.

Nobody huh?

This sucks, I have reinstalled the software for it as well. Still won't scroll up. Only a couple months old.

I recall having a similar problem with the one I was using. I think I kind of cleaned the little ball, might have gotten a little skin oil residue on it. I think I used a tissue on it. Sorry to not be more help.

Hmmmm... is there an easy way to remove the little ball for cleaning? I've a Mighty Mouse but went back to my Logitech MX510 as I found the MM drivers don't play so well with a dual display (sometimes the mouse pointer would 'snap back' to the other monitor, intermittently). Also, the Logitech is considerably more comfortable for my hands and mouse-style...

Pity, as the MM is a nice looking bit of kit...

John

Mine eventually fixed itself. Must of had something preventing it from sensing the up motion.... or maybe it wasn't even allowing it to scroll up!?. Well anyway it's been working fine now for a few months I think.....

Mine has done this twice. I've successfully cleaned the scroll ball both times. The way I clean it is to take a warm damp cloth and apply moderate downward pressure and turn the ball all directions. Then use a dry cloth and repeat.

It's worked twice.

Hi, I am a newcomer from distant Athens, in Greece. Happy to join your Club.

Mine is doing this recently all the time. I have already cleaned the scroll ball several times, nothing happened.

If I open the mouse for propper cleaning, what then ?. :?:

I wouldn't suggest opening the mouse. That will void your warranty. If cleaning no longer works, I would take it to your local Apple Dealer and have it replaced.

It should still be under warranty as the Mighty Mouse hasn't been on the market over a year yet.

I have found that cleanig the ball with isopropyl ( rubbing) alcohol worked best for me. I use a lint free cleaning cloth. It takes about 20 min. after the cleaning for the ball material to reclaim the properties to move the internal pieces and parts as designed.

Don,

this is exactly what I do. Anyway, I just presume to have a cleaned ball. However, everything would be fine if the ball was directly accessible let’s say like in the old ADB mouses or so.

Therefore I have the feeling, the mouse is not designed in the best way.

Thank you for your message.

George

I can't argue with you there George. I never had a mouse I could not clean all the internal parts before myself. I wonder what the logic was on this design ? I hope it clears up for you. Mine needs a cleaning monthly with a family of five.

My second mighty mouse has just stopped scrolling up. I took my first one back to the Apple Store after the same problem. I've tried various methods of getting it working, stopping short of Kim's suggestion of soaking it in Vodka, but it's just not having it.

It's a shame as I really like the Mighty mouse.

Back to my good old Logictech :)
