Hi All
I have a new airport express (n), a powerbook g4 1.33 (tiger .11) and a hp deskjet f2188 all in one, and i would like to print wirelessly (can i hear people laughing already?)
everything seems fine, but isnt....
the printer prints with direct connection via usb.
the printer setup utility recognises the same printer but at a different location when it is plugged into airport,
it has the hpf2100 series drivers in the supported list.
the utility on the print utility says that the printer is setup and available and gives the generic ip address as its location.
when i go to print it says that printer connection failed, check printer.
if i reset the printing setup and add the printer again, it sometimes sits there looking for the printer indefinetly .
i loaded the latest non beta version of gutenprint.
i even loaded hpijs etc from linux for osx website.
i have tried adding the printer as a ipp, using hp jet, an ip of 10.0.1.1 and the hp driver. no luck so far.
has anyone got any further ideas i may try?
Thank you in advance
matty :?

It would be an extremely rare thing for an all-in-one unit to work over a network. I've never seen it happen. Simple printers can often be made to work as well as when directly connected, but multifunction print/fax/scan drivers never seem to work. I wouldn't waste much time on this one.

Michael is right about printing/scanning under that setup. I have a Minolta Laser Printer connected to an Airport and it often "hangs". The problem seems to be that it thinks there is a job in the print queue even if there isn't a job waiting.

If you are determined to get this project working this thread may be helpful.

Well don't be stingy with the answer. :) I've had similar problems in the past printing to a Minolta PagePro 1250 series printer. It seems to work fine when it wants to.

Hi
Sorry this is so late, i sort of fell off the internet there, whilst in Beijing.
I'll try and remember what i did (i dont have the same setup anymore)
I got Foomatic drivers from the web and hpijs, installed both,
at the printer setup utility
add printer (ip or browse)
use HP Jet direct sprocket
print using HP
choose your model with Foomatic/hpijs (not CUPS)
(The foomatic/hpijs option was not showing up initially, so i rebooted)
its a good idea to name this new printer as being wireless so you dont choose the wrong printer when choosing the default printer in the print dialog box.
hopefully things work out ok.
cheers
matty

Thanks for that information. I am going to experiment with that a bit soon and perhaps this will fix things.
