I cannot remember the games off hand but many were only compatible with a windows based system. I have installed Xp using Fusions but do not want to go on line while in Xp.

I have had no luck with the data transfer. My Belkin cable has stopped working all together and did not transfer a bit of info. I bought an ethernet cable and tried that way with it in the back of my router and my Mac will not recognize it on the network. Probably a problem with my PC.

I was partially able to transfer some itunes to the mac but only some of my music and none of my movies appeared.

Now another question is I am trying to open some files that were done in Microsoft Word. I do have iworks installed on the mac. The document is showing as a wpd and will not open. Any suggestions.

I am sorry for the wordy post but am very frustrated at what was supposed to be an easy task. On a side note my kids are loving the camera with skype.

I have found the culprit. Apparently, there is a difference in the meta data coding for images between Safari and Firefox. I use Firefox, and Mail uses the Safari coding. I think things were working right for me with Firefox in the past, so I bet something subtle changed with one of the recent Firefox updates that caused the mismatch. So, I'll just live with the problem, and drop the images on the desktop before moving them to Mail.

did you ask apple if it's a repair they can do instore?

I've taken my (back in the day) ibook into stores here in the uk and they have replaced the following instore:

optical drive
optical drive cable
fans
hard drive
motherboard
dc-in board

(yes nearly the whole computer)

if this is the case, they might let you keep the computer until they have the parts in, call you when the parts are in and then you might only be without it for a few hours - a day or so. talk to them, explain the situation, they will do what they can, just be nice and they'll be nice

i heard someone say once that if you say something like "i really need your help, i really hope you're the guy that can help me out etc etc" then you are more likely to get a more positive response, im not a psychologist so i couldnt say for certain, but it cant hurt.

Well recently, some of the keys went on my macbook, its only about 2 months old. I called apple care and they told me to do a few resets. None of them worked. So i made an appointment for the genius bar for the next day. Well when i woke up and turned on my macbook, the speakers, microphone and headphone jack were not working. At this point i wanted to cry. My mac is already ghetto rigged with an external keyboard(obviously thats how im typing LOL) Has anyone had similar problems? Cause i am currently a student and do all my work on the computer. I have another powerbook and an iMac but i use my macbook mainly for school. -_- I took it to apple and alot of stuff needs repaired. I cant go to long with out it. Some one help?

You don't need to be connected to the internet to update to 10.3.9. You can download the Combo Update on another computer and move it to the iMac with an external hard drive or flash drive, and install offline.

SOMETIMES, the iPhoto edit settings (ADJUST) have absolutely no effect on the preview picture on the screen. And then, sometimes it works as expected. The pics are all jpg and all from the same camera. If I drag one of these frozen images into Preview, the Preview adjust settings always work.

To eatdirtmofo,
Nice story. shopping in Greece most be something similar to shopping in Thailand. If the bargain doesn't suit you, just give a "Thanks anyway," and start to walk - if they don't call you back, you can usually find the same thing cheeper a few stalls away. The only thing about Thailand is that you have to be very careful about copies of brand names - make sure they are boxed and come with warranty paperwork, etc. Fortunately, I live just outside of Bangkok where it's fairly easy to acquire computers and accessories with one of the biggest places, Pantip Plaza, just minutes from where I work. Check the link for details, but it's, amazingly, fashioned from a 5 story department store. Up-country it's a bit more difficult to get good equipment, although it's improving all the time.
It's up to you how you want to set Expose up. I like to have something different in each corner. If you don't like, or tire of the setup, you can always go back and change it.

You cannot use sudo without a password. The only solution is to set a password for the administator account. If you want to have an account without a password, you would be wise to create a standard user account for this purpose and reserve the password-protected administrator account for actions that require administrator privileges.

I seem to remember using ApoleTalk, which is still present in 10.5. If nothing else, burn the files to a CD, and use sneaker net.

Hi!
I am new to this list but not to the Mac. My first Mac was a PowerMac from 1994, an educational model I got through UMD College Park, which immediately became the center of my new MIDI studio. Later I picked up a used Power Macintosh 7300/200, a vast improvement. Just today I received a refurbed MacBook Pro 17" 2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo, which leads to my first question: how do I move my files from the 7300/200, running OS8.5, to my MacBook Pro running 10.4.11? I have already searched your archives and the Web for answers and I am coming up short. These machines only have one port in common: ethernet, and I tried to get them to talk to each other over that port without success. I tried uploading files to a web site but OS8.5 is just barely street-legal on most sites with a seriously outdated browser. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
In the past week or so, we have had several users reporting Finder crashes. The crashes were eliminated by removing Stuffit. Smith Micro claims that this problem only occurs on Tiger (10.4.x) systems. Their explanation is here:

http://tinyurl.com/cohqwt

They recommend that you delete all previous versions of Stuffit and install Stuffit 2009. They offer an uninstaller program that is supposed to delete all remnants of your current and past Stuffit products.
firstly a .mov is, by its very nature, a quicktime file,

are the recipients on mac os x or windows? if windows, then ask them if they have quicktime installed, if not, installing quicktime will solve the problem and they can view .mov .mp4 or whatever other format you throw out from imovie

Thanks Michael. I ran the console app before I posted, and it showed console.log was open. I didn't notice the File/Open System Log. Duh!

Anyway, I shut it down, swapped power supplies, and now it's switched as to which drive mounts. It appears I have a problem with the power supply

Are you selecting the right security level to join the network? And when you wiped the G3 and reinstalled, did you leave something out, like an update? The last update to 10.3 was 10.3.9.

If you click the question mark icon at the lower left when looking at System Preferences > Network > Advanced, it will give you an explanation of how search domains are used. This is not causing your problem. Listing search domains MAY help in locating resources on your local domain, but definitely DO NOT help or hinder locating and accessing resources outside your domain.

I just read a few places that it could possibly be the pwer supply. I'm going to try a swap and see what happens.
