Ah-ha, I see. There's usually a workaround for that, you could try and sneak it in IN PLACE of the the TV. Kinda like I did, snuck mine in to replace a burnt out display for the PC. Damn, honey they mustta gave me the wrong box.

I'm now an owner of a Wii system (a TOTALLY cool gaming system, by the way), but even though it includes built-in WiFi, I can't get it to connect to my Airport Extreme base station (not the latest version) network for some reason.

Though the Wii immediately offers my AP network as a connection choice, after entering my password-protected-network's password, I get an error message, something like "Error message 50001 returned; please check your settings or contact Wii at bla bla bla..."

Any suggestions appreciated...

This thread http://macosg.com/group/viewtopic.php?t=16760 noted that Apple's iTunes Store is now the #1 music retailer in the country, but subsequent posts made me wonder about how MacOSG members tend to buy their tunes these days...

So, please vote in the poll above and, if you feel like it, post about why/where you buy your music in whatever form/from whatever place you do.

Me, I buy everything digitally and exclusively through Apple's iTunes Store these days. Haven't purchased a physical CD in years and, though my musical tastes are all over the board, I can't recall the last time I couldn't find what I wanted on the Apple ITS.

Thanks for the reply - An iMac would indeed be much more powerful then the mini, but less easy to sneak in next to the TV for use as a media server. However, I'm going to check them out again 8800 graphics is pretty good.

I could replace the G4 (used as a file server and web page system) with the iMac - And operate the media side of things via a bluetooth mouse/keyboard and just run a cable to the TV. Food for thought as I then get my network-games via TV or in front of the iMac. Could be the answer...

thanks

It's interesting, Howls n' Chris, to read your posts cuz they made me realize that I haven't purchased a single CD in many years. I used to think I needed to buy a CD because I "had to have something physical," rip it to iTunes, etc. But somewhere along the line, I just stopped that and started buying songs/albums through the ITS. It's probably the instant-gratification thing with me, i.e. I want, and I want it NOW. Once I download it, I usually listen to tunes through my Mac's external HK speakers, but it's nice to be able to re-purpose those songs to play wherever I want 'em - car, iPod, iPhone, another Mac, etc.

Anyway, now I'm curious how many MacOSG members and others remain all-physical media, all-digital or somewhere in between? Think I'll create another poll Q to find out...

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it back or reinstalling it? I have the original installation disks for 10.4. Thanks for any help.

As the computer's almost 4 years old and i have used the drive extensively, i decided to just get a little external drive while i'm here in Oz.

All started a fair time ago when I sold my Atari 520ST and bought -

Performa 400 - Used an SE30 at Uni and this made a lot of sense.
Powerbook 520c - Excellent machine, dual monitor support!!
Powermac 9200 - 90MHz of raw power (still in use by my brothers kids)
PowerMac G3 400MHz - Blue and White some issues with modems. Power supply died this year (replaced with a G4 400MHz from e:bay but transfered the blue and white panels !!! memory, HDD, video card etc...)
IBM 240z laptop (500MHz P3) (What can I say, I needed a Windoze machine to run some data logging software) still used.

PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5GHz - Dog of a machine, nothing but trouble so far.

All in all I'm a real Mac fan - At some point I want MacBook, but waiting for a small format (could give-in at any moment though!!)

My current machine is the G5 which had seemingly random shutdowns that were explained as "possible software conflicts, have I upgraded to the latest OS?" by the Apple help lines. And just after it went out of warranty I diagnosed them as the dreaded "thermal runaway" errors from CPU B reaching >103°C and forcing a sleep. So with occasional sleeps, noisy fans, 2 dead hard drives, 2 dead graphics cards (Because these were ATI X800XT's there were no replacements and I'm now using the older Radeon 9600 type) and an inability to restart the machine without thoroughly cooling it for 10mins with a desk fan first. I'm a bit fed up with it.

So much so that I have bought Dell machines running XP Pro for my office - not great but they will do until I can be sure these issues are solved. I must admit there were other factors here, but if my G5 had been good I would have forced my colleagues to go Mac !!!

Currently looking at a Mac mini for a media server to join my Airport extreme + express wireless. But as I want to play networked games as well, I'm waiting until the graphics options improve. Or I could buy AppleTV and buy a MacBook for the gaming/work stuff - Choices ... choices ... hmmm

Hope this was of interest to someone

I remember a windows tool for catching youtube flash videos. It'll probably work for other than youtube.

If you have windows on your iMac, than boot to it and go to flashfetcher.com

I tried to download it thru Firefox with Download Helper but was only able to download control codes. It appears to be a streaming video; is there any software out there that captures those?

That particular video is not for sale at that site (and it's not on or offered at the Bernina.com site). It's the shows with "Ricky and Alex" that are for sale and not the Bernina ed. videos (which you can "watch for free"). It particularly irks me because the foot is an expensive little 4 oz. piece ($250) that should have had the instructional video with it and didn't.

I will bookmark it for now but will keep a lookout for other possible alternatives.

Thanks for the help.

I just did an archive and install, it finished and I apparently still have all my info. I had to install 12 updates. I can no longer get anything to freeze, I can use word/mac, and so far it has resumed it's speed, it is no longer terminally slow. I can restart and shutdown with the black apple, I do not have to power button it. I am repairing permissions as we speak.

Prior to the freeze I could access programs via finder with no problems, once they froze I could not access any thing via the Dock.

Additional question:
Should I be doing anything else or should I leave well enough alone? The new archive & install used another 11 GB, leaving me 90 GB left, I can live with that but shouldn't there now be two "old computer files" folders? If it ain't broke....

Those are Flash videos. There are apps you can use to capture Flash videos to your hard drive. I use CosmoPod to capture YouTube videos, but I tried it on that one, and it doesn't work. I would suggest bookmarking the video links and view them that way.

The site has copyright, look at the bottom of the page. All sites are copyright rather stated or not. A lot of discussions about copyright when it comes to the web.
If I were interested in doing what you want, I would contact them and maybe they would provide you with the video, probably for a price since it is a business.

Edit: Finally went to the site, wouldn't you know, videos are for sale.

Thank you All. Chakris, I followed your instructions, they worked! What a concept, follow instructions! I printed them out for further use if necessary. Hopefully my Doc freezing problem is fixed. When I first tried this and got everything screwed up, my primary HD did not show up to restart, so naturally I started shot gunning everything. Hopefully I'm back to "normal". I panicked, my extended warrantee expired the 3 years in Feb.

OK I spoke to soon. My Dock is still freezing. I can use Safari and mail, but if I click on another app in the dock, it freezes all apps in the dock. The app will not force quit and I can not restart with out the power button. When I try word for Mac I get one word typed, then the beach ball until I push the power button. The beach ball is showing up no matter what app I open.

Any suggestions?

The website is thequiltshow.com

Along the lt. side panel choose "Bernina Educational Videos", then select "A perfect bias binding binding by machine with Nina Mcveigh.

Background: Bernina is a manufacturer of sewing machines and a sponsor of Thequiltshow.com. They sell this particular fancy sewing machine foot with complex operating instructions but no video comes with the foot purchase. Nina McVeigh is employed by Bernina as an expert/advisor on using their machines and sewing feet.

I'm only using the video for my own personal use and since I don't use the foot that often, I wanted to have on file the how to video, esp. if the website disappears one day.

Also, I looked for a copyright mark and didn't see one.

Thanks for any help you can give.
